ELECTRICAL REPAIRS & SERVICE CALLS

Understand the problem. Know the next step.

Outlets · Breakers · Lighting · Power issues

Smoke, fire or immediate danger? Leave the area and call 911. For burning smells, sparking or unusual heat, stop using the affected equipment and seek urgent professional help. Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker.

WHAT IS HAPPENING AT YOUR PROPERTY?

Everyday electrical problems deserve a proper answer.

You do not need to know the technical cause before calling. Tell us what stopped working, where it happens and whether the problem is constant or comes and goes.

01

Breakers that keep tripping

Repeated trips need investigation. The cause can involve circuit demand, connected equipment or a fault. Replacing the breaker is only appropriate when the diagnosis supports it.

02

Dead or unreliable outlets

One outlet may stop working, or several may lose power together. We investigate the affected receptacles and circuit to establish where the interruption occurs.

03

Flickering or dimming lights

Tell us whether it affects one fixture or several rooms, and if it began after a bulb, dimmer or equipment change. Those details help guide the investigation.

04

Switches & dimmers

A switch that no longer operates a light, an inconsistent dimmer or a control that buzzes needs assessment. The device, connected lighting and wiring may all be relevant.

05

GFCI outlet problems

Ground fault protection helps reduce shock risk. If a GFCI will not reset or repeatedly trips, the device and the circuit it protects need assessment; bypassing protection is not a repair.

06

Intermittent or partial power

Power that disappears from a room or returns unpredictably can be difficult to describe. Note which areas are affected and when it happens so testing can follow the pattern.

Is the whole neighbourhood without power? Check BC Hydro’s outage list. Tell us if neighbours or shared building areas are also affected. A utility outage and a fault inside your property need different responses.

DIAGNOSIS BEFORE THE REPAIR

The symptom tells us where to start.

A dead outlet does not always mean a faulty outlet. A tripping breaker does not automatically mean your panel needs replacing. Testing helps separate the visible problem from its cause.

Atlix reviews the symptoms, investigates the affected electrical system and explains the repair options. The scope should follow the findings, whether that means a device repair, circuit work or a separately planned upgrade.

A device or connection issue

The repair may be limited to an outlet, switch, fixture connection or another affected component, subject to its condition and suitability.

A fault along the circuit

The problem may need tracing beyond the first device that stopped working. Access to other outlets, junctions or wiring can influence the repair.

A wider electrical concern

If the findings point to capacity, panel condition or more extensive wiring work, discuss that separately from the immediate repair and agree on the next step.

For larger planned work, explore Atlix’s panel upgrades, service changes and renovation wiring services.

CLEAR EXPECTATIONS BEFORE THE VISIT

What affects electrical repair costs?

Finding a concealed or intermittent fault is different from replacing an accessible device. Describe the issue first, then confirm how the service visit, diagnostic time and repair work will be charged.

01

Time to locate the fault

A clear, repeatable problem can be easier to trace than an issue that only appears occasionally or affects several parts of a circuit.

02

Access to the wiring

Finished walls, ceilings, locked electrical rooms and occupied work areas can affect access. Mention any known restrictions when requesting service.

03

Parts & repair scope

The component involved, suitable replacement parts and any wiring corrections affect the work. Some findings may require a separate estimate or return visit.

04

Approvals & finishing

Where relevant, clarify permits, inspection, building approvals and responsibility for patching or painting. Include these items when comparing repair proposals.

Ask what the service call includes.

Confirm any call-out charge, diagnostic allowance, labour, parts and taxes before booking. A free estimate should not be assumed to include an on-site fault investigation.

HOMES, RENTALS & WORKPLACES

A service visit that fits your property.

Electrical Repairs & Troubleshooting

An occupied home, a strata building and a busy workplace have different access needs. Sharing those details early helps define who needs to be involved and when the affected area can be made available.

Homeowners

Request help with an individual outlet, lighting problem or recurring circuit issue. Mention recent electrical work or new equipment, even if you are unsure whether it is connected.

Landlords & property managers

Provide the affected unit or common area, the on-site contact and any access arrangements. Confirm authorization for the proposed work and coordination with tenants or strata management where needed.

Businesses

Explain which lighting, outlets or work areas are affected and how that interrupts operations. Discuss access and any anticipated power interruption before arranging the visit.

Based in Coquitlam, serving Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Send your property address when requesting service so coverage and current appointment availability can be confirmed.

YOUR REPAIR VISIT

From the first call to the final check.

01

Describe the symptoms

Tell us where the problem happens, when it began and what has changed. Confirm the service-call arrangements and a suitable visit time.

02

Investigate the cause

Assess the affected equipment and circuit, with testing guided by the symptoms. If the problem is intermittent, share the pattern you have observed.

03

Review the repair

Discuss the findings and proposed work before proceeding. If further access, specialist parts or a larger project is needed, agree on that scope separately.

04

Repair & verify

Complete the agreed work and check operation. Review what was repaired, any remaining limitations and whether further work or inspection is required.

Before the electrician arrives: arrange access to the affected area and electrical panel, and make sure the person authorizing the work is available. Leave panel covers, outlets and wiring in place; there is no need to open anything to prepare.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Electrical repair & troubleshooting FAQs

Can I book a small electrical repair?

Yes. Atlix provides electrical repairs and service calls, including problems with outlets, switches, lighting and circuits. Describe the issue and your location so the required visit and availability can be discussed.

What if the problem stops before the visit?

Keep the appointment discussion focused on what you observed: affected rooms, timing, equipment in use and any recent changes. Intermittent faults may take further investigation. Do not recreate a dangerous situation just to demonstrate it.

Can the repair be completed in one visit?

That depends on the diagnosis, access and suitable parts. A straightforward repair may be possible during the visit; concealed faults or additional work may need a follow-up. Confirm what has been resolved and what remains before the visit ends.

Do electrical repairs require a permit?

It depends on the work and location. Vancouver exempts certain replacements of defective fuses, receptacles, switches or bulbs with similar type and rating. Other electrical work can require a permit. Confirm the requirements for the actual repair; see the City’s electrical permit guidance.

Is the problem in my appliance or the wiring?

Either may be involved. Explain whether the issue appears with one appliance or affects other equipment on the same circuit. Electrical troubleshooting can help distinguish a supply or circuit problem from an appliance fault; internal appliance repairs may need the manufacturer or an appliance technician.

Should I keep resetting a breaker or GFCI?

Repeated tripping needs investigation. These devices provide protection, so forcing them to stay on or bypassing them is not a solution. Stop using the affected circuit or equipment and arrange an assessment. For general precautions, read BC Hydro’s home electrical safety tips.
